What Do You See When You Close Your Eyes?

Are you asleep?
Could you please tell me your dreams?
Or is it nightmares you face?
Be that the reason you stay awake?
Before the cock crows
Before the moon goes
That identical face between day and night
When only the clock can forecast the time
What does one dream of?
Visions? Random actions? Or ruminating thoughts?
How often do you blink?
Or shut your visual prowess to think?
Those moments when you willingly lose your sight,
What do you see when you close your eyes?
In the church, while lifting up blessed hands,
In the mosque, while bowing heads to Mecca,
Religions and doctrines seem to say the same,
Only with closed eyes can you truly pray.
To see God?
Or not to see the devil taunt?
To focus? Meditation is the key.
When you try not to, what do you see?
Do you see heaven? Do you see angels?
When you willingly over light choose darkness.
Do you see demons? Do you see foes?
Reminding you of your sins… O filthy soul.
When your eyelids shut
What then are your thoughts?
Hopes? Dreams? A desired future?
Failures? Dreams? Undesired features?
Do you smile at what you see?
Or cringe at who you cannot be?
Do you know how to fly?
It’s the simplest thing once you close your eyes.
Do you see nothing, as it is meant to be?
Do you embrace oblivion in the darkness within?
Tell me, tell me, tell me this night.
What do you see when you close your eyes?
